OTHER PROJECTS PAUL IS WORKING ON
I am currently working with Gina Russo on a new book, From the Ashes, which is about her experiences as a survivor of what has become known as "The Station Nightclub Fire."
On February 20, 2003, hundreds of people gathered inside a small nightclub in West Warwick, RI to see the 80's rock bank, Great White play a set of their oldies. During their opening song, a pyrotechnic display ignited the stage. The fire spread rapidly and engulfed the interior, trapping many people inside before they could escape. It was the fourth deadliest fire in U.S. history, killing 100 people and injuring 200 more, some sustaining serious life-altering burns.
Gina Russo, 36, the mother of two young boys, was overcome by smoke inhalation and passed out before being pulled to safety. Her fiancé, Freddy Crisostomi, died at the scene. Gina's injuries required doctors to keep her in a medically induced coma for eleven weeks. She had sustained burns to over 40% of her body, lost her left ear and due to 4th degree burns on her scalp, is unable to grow her own hair. She has undergone numerous surgeries, years of painful physical therapy and psychological scars that are every bit as permanent as the ones to her body. Yet despite this tragedy, Gina offers an emotional story of hope and triumph that will amaze and inspire.
I have recently completed a book with former Providence Police Chief, Urbano Prignano, Jr. The book, titled, Fair Game, is an autobiographical account of Colonel Prignano's tenure as chief, from October 1995- January 2001.
It was a tumultuous period in the city's history, and a difficult time to be Chief of Police. His appointment was made when Vincent A. "Buddy" Cianci, Jr. was mayor and the FBI was investigating City Hall corruption. Numerous city officials were indicted or targeted in the scandal. Cianci himself was convicted of racketeering conspiracy in 2002, following a two year FBI investigation dubbed, "Operation Plunder Dome." Because of his association with the Cianci regime, Prignano has remained in the line of fire well after his retirement. There are public officials in Providence today who are seeking to revoke his pension, though he has never been implicated in any criminal act. Still, Prignano remains steadfast and unapologetic, with plenty to say about the city of Providence, Mayor Cianci and the media that has condemned him.
Fair Game will be available in the spring of 2009.
I am currently in discussions with Rhode Island Assistant Attorney General Bethany Macktaz Moore on a true crime book. Left for Dead will tell the story of two brave women who survived separate brutal sexual assaults. They were raped, beaten and left for dead, but both managed to survive and fought back against their attackers. With the help of a female district attorney, they testified against the men who brutalized them and put them behind bars for a long time.

I am currently working on project about the 1999 Providence College baseball team who learned just before the start of their season that the college baseball program was going to be eliminated the following year in order to comply with Title IX provisions. Knowing that this was going to be the last year that intercollegiate baseball would be played at PC, the team decided to put their emotions and anger aside and make it a season to remember by becoming champions and winning the NCCA tournament. Srike IX is the story of this historic year and the players who decided to make their statement on the field and show everyone what the sport means to them.
